TITLE: The implementation of a soft power strategy in Afghanistan consisting of both political and religious summits to compliment Operation Enduring Freedom.
MAJOR AREAS TO BE AFFECTED: Joint Chiefs of Staff, State Department, Department of Defense
SUMMARY: “The cost of war has escalated to unprecedented levels, according to the Congressional Research Unit who estimate that each soldier deployed to Afghanistan costs an estimated $1 million. … With the withdrawal date set so soon, it is imperative that the United States accomplish two major points: reconstruct our reputation for international diplomacy and prepare the Karzai government for life after American occupation. These religious summits, to eliminate militant Islamic action and recruitment and the political summits to develop Afghanistan are needed in order to cripple the Taliban by cutting off their support from the bottom up, while Operation Enduring Freedom handles direct conflicts using drone missiles and specialty missions.”
